About the role

Positive Connections/ Crime Prevention Officer – Curriculum Access Team
Location: West Sussex – Travelling across 7 different sites across West SussexSalary: NJC Grade 8, SCP 20–24Contract: Full-time – all year round. 37 hours per week.Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Positive Connections to join an alternative provision setting in West Sussex, supporting vulnerable young people who may be at risk of criminal exploitation, offending and anti-social behaviour.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with young people both within an education setting and in the wider community, helping them make positive choices, improve attendance and engagement, and reduce barriers to education.
The Role
The successful candidate will build strong, positive relationships with identified young people and deliver targeted interventions designed to reduce the risk of criminal activity, exploitation and anti-social behaviour.
You will work closely with school leaders, SEND and pastoral teams and external agencies to develop bespoke support and engagement plans. You will also contribute to educational activities and interventions aimed at improving attendance, behaviour and academic outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include:

Building positive and trusting relationships with vulnerable and hard-to-reach young people

Delivering targeted and bespoke interventions

Identifying risks at an early stage and following safeguarding procedures

Supporting young people at risk of permanent exclusion

Developing behaviour management and personalised reintegration plans

Supporting young people to understand the risks and consequences associated with crime and criminal exploitation

Working closely with schools, families and partner agencies

Liaising with Youth Justice, social care, police and other professionals

Maintaining accurate safeguarding and intervention records

Supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND and behavioural difficulties

Contributing to improved attendance, engagement and educational outcomes

About You
We are looking for someone who has experience working with vulnerable, challenging or hard-to-reach young people, ideally within education, alternative provision, youth services or a similar setting.
You should have:

Experience working with young people with challenging behaviour

Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and/or SEND

Experience of delivering targeted youth interventions

Experience working on a 1:1 basis with young people

A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection

The ability to build positive relationships with young people

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Experience working collaboratively with external agencies

The ability to identify and assess individual needs

Good written and record-keeping skills

A commitment to equality, inclusion and positive outcomes for young people

A full and valid UK driving licence is required as the role may involve working across different locations.
