About the Role

Denbighshire County Council is looking for a Receptionist to join its Corporate Support Service – People, within the Service Improvement team.

This is a customer-facing role providing a professional reception service alongside general clerical and administrative support to customers, visitors and staff.

The successful candidate will be confident dealing with people face-to-face, over the telephone and via email, while also carrying out a range of routine administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and greet visitors, customers and staff in a professional manner.
  • Answer routine telephone and face-to-face enquiries.
  • Provide general clerical and administrative support, including filing, photocopying, emailing and completing forms.
  • Maintain accurate manual and computerised records and management information.
  • Carry out routine typing, word processing and other IT-based administrative tasks.
  • Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing post.
  • Organise meetings, including booking rooms and arranging travel or accommodation where required.
  • Assist with maintaining office stationery supplies and keeping storage areas organised.
  • Attend relevant meetings and assist with note-taking where required.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
  • Maintain confidentiality, tact and professionalism when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Participate in relevant training and development activities.
  • Undertake other appropriate duties as directed by the Line Manager.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working in a reception, administrative or clerical environment.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A professional approach to confidentiality and sensitive information.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing demands.
  • Previous local authority/council experience would be advantageous.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience of working in an administrative, clerical or finance environment.
  • Very good IT skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Very good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Good communication skills across face-to-face, telephone, written and email channels.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Welsh language skills – Level 4 essential.
  • 5 GCSEs at grades A–C or equivalent, including Maths and English, or equivalent experience/qualifications.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant discipline.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within local government.
  • Experience of note-taking.
  • ECDL or equivalent IT qualification, or willingness to achieve this within 18 months.
