Job Description

The role of the Telehandler involves the safe and efficient operation of telehandler machinery to support construction site activities. The successful candidate is responsible for loading, unloading, lifting, and transporting materials around the site in a timely and controlled manner. This position requires adherence to all health and safety regulations and site procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate telehandler equipment to move materials and equipment across the construction site safely and efficiently.
• Load and unload deliveries, ensuring correct placement and stacking of materials.
• Conduct daily pre-use checks and routine maintenance on the telehandler to ensure safe operation.
• Follow all site safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments at all times.
• Communicate effectively with site personnel regarding material movements and site requirements.
• Assist with site housekeeping to maintain a clean and hazard-free working environment.
• Report any faults or defects with machinery or site hazards promptly to the site management team.
• Support general site activities as directed by the site supervisor or manager.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Telehandler Operator Licence or equivalent certification demonstrating competence in operating telehandler machinery.
• Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card or equivalent proof of site competency.

Education

• Minimum of GCSEs grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent qualifications is desirable but not essential.

Experience

• Proven experience operating telehandler machinery within the construction industry or a similar environment.
• Experience working on active construction sites, following site safety protocols and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent knowledge of telehandler machinery operation, including load capacities and safe driving practises.
• Good understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to construction sites.
• Ability to read and interpret basic site plans and instructions.
• Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with site teams.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good physical fitness and manual dexterity to operate machinery and handle materials safely.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional plant machinery certifications such as forklift or crane operation.
• First Aid at Work certification.
• Experience of working on large-scale construction sites or civil engineering projects.

Working Conditions

• Work is predominantly outdoors on active construction sites, subject to varying weather conditions.
• Regular use of personal protective equipment, including safety boots, high-visibility clothing, hard hats, and gloves.
• Physical demands include standing, walking, climbing, and operating machinery for extended periods.
• Work hours are full-time, with the possibility of overtime depending on project requirements.
• Work may involve early starts and occasional weekend shifts in line with construction schedules.
