About the role

Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a proactive and organised Project Manager to oversee vessel maintenance, repair, refit, survey and inspection projects for commercial marine clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget whilst providing a high level of customer service throughout.

Acting as the key link between customers, operational teams and administrative functions, you will bring structure, planning and control to a fast-paced and reactive environment. You will manage multiple workstreams, coordinate resources and ensure effective communication between all stakeholders to support successful project delivery.

Whilst marine experience would be advantageous, we are keen to hear from candidates with transferable project delivery experience from sectors such as construction, automotive, engineering, manufacturing and facilities management, where managing multiple trades, contractors, hazards and competing priorities is a core part of the role.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage vessel maintenance, repair, refit, survey and inspection projects from enquiry through to completion.
  • Review customer requirements and work packages, defining project scope, schedules, resource requirements and delivery milestones.
  • Coordinate labour, materials, subcontractors, vessel movements and operational resources to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and managing expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project progress, manage risks and adapt plans to accommodate urgent repairs, operational constraints and changing priorities.
  • Capture, manage and document project variations and additional works, ensuring they are authorised and communicated for commercial control and invoicing.
  • Liaise closely with operations, technical, administration and finance teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably.
  • Maintain accurate project records and reporting, including project costs, budgets and overall performance.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company HSEQ policies and procedures, promoting a strong culture of safety and quality.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, planning processes and operational efficiency.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience in project management, operations management, maintenance planning or operational delivery within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong planning, scheduling and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Commercial awareness, including experience managing project costs, variations and invoicing processes.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make effective decisions in a reactive environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project planning tools.

Desirable

  • Experience within marine, maritime or other industrial environments.
  • Understanding of maintenance, repair and asset management activities.
  • Knowledge of commercial vessel maintenance and repair operations.
  • Project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent).
  • Experience working within HSEQ systems and safety-focused environments.
  • Knowledge of slipway operations, vessel surveys, dry docking or marine refit projects.

Personal Attributes

  • Organised, resilient and proactive.
  • Strong communicator and relationship builder.
  • Practical problem-solver with a disciplined approach to planning and delivery.
  • Comfortable balancing planned work programmes with urgent and emergency repair work.
  • Able to bring structure and control to a dynamic operational environment.
  • Commercially aware and focused on delivering successful outcomes for both the customer and the business.

Key Success Measures

  • Delivery of projects safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
  • Effective coordination of labour, subcontractors and operational resources.
  • High levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Accurate management of project costs, variations and commercial performance.
  • Strong adherence to HSEQ standards and procedures.
  • Continuous improvement in planning, coordination and operational control across the Marine Services function.
