Higher Level Teaching Assistant Required We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist Autism school in Wokingham from September.
This rewarding long-term opportunity is ideal for a dedicated education professional who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and helping them achieve both academically and personally.
About the Role As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with Autism across the school. Working closely with teachers and the wider SEND team, you will help deliver high-quality learning experiences and provide targeted interventions that enable pupils to thrive.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering planned learning activities and interventions
- Leading small group and whole-class sessions when required
- Supporting pupils with Autism and associated communication or sensory needs
- Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Assisting with the planning and preparation of learning resources
- Monitoring and recording pupil progress
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents, and external professionals
- Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Hold HLTA status or have significant experience working at HLTA level
- Have previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism and additional SEND needs
- Possess excellent behaviour management and communication skills
- Are patient, resilient, and adaptable
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
- Are confident leading learning activities and supporting classroom teaching
- Have a genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential
- Experience within a specialist Autism setting
- Knowledge of Autism-friendly teaching strategies
- Understanding of sensory processing needs
- Experience supporting pupils with communication difficulties
- Team Teach or other positive behaviour support training
