About the role
Probate Solicitor – Up to £55,000 – Hybrid/Remote
TSR Legal has recently been instructed by a leading national legal services provider to recruit an experienced Probate Solicitor into its specialist Probate team. The position can be based in the Bristol office with hybrid working available.
This is an opportunity to join one of the UK’s largest specialist probate operations, working exclusively within estate administration rather than carrying the broader mix of Wills, LPAs and probate work typically found within a traditional Private Client team. The business has continued to invest significantly in its probate offering, technology and people, with further growth planned across its national offices.
Due to continued demand, the team is looking for a probate solicitor who can independently manage estate administration matters from instruction through to completion. The real emphasis is on practical probate experience rather than simply PQE level or job title.
Ideally, you will have around two years or more of hands-on probate experience and will have managed a meaningful number of estates through to completion. Experience dealing with taxable estates and inheritance tax is particularly important, as the successful candidate will need to be comfortable taking responsibility for these matters without significant supervision.
You may be a qualified Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or STEP-qualified professional, although candidates with equivalent substantive probate experience will also be considered.
Your caseload will include a variety of estate administration matters, with the opportunity to work on more technically interesting and higher-value estates as your experience develops. You will advise executors, administrators and beneficiaries throughout the process, dealing with assets and liabilities, inheritance tax considerations, property, estate accounts and final distributions.
One of the biggest differences between this opportunity and a traditional private practice probate role is how performance is measured. There is no expectation to generate your own work or spend time networking for new instructions, with cases generated centrally by the business. The team does not operate a traditional hourly billing model, with performance instead focused much more closely on progressing cases and delivering a strong client experience.
This allows probate lawyers to concentrate on the work itself rather than constantly thinking about billable hours, business development or building a following.
The organisation has also invested heavily in its legal technology and case management systems, with administrative support available and technology increasingly used to streamline the estate administration process.
Hybrid working is available, with greater office presence encouraged initially while you become familiar with the team and systems. Once established, the usual arrangement is typically around two to three days in the office, depending on experience and individual circumstances.
The role offers a salary in the region of up to £55,000 depending on experience, alongside an excellent wider benefits package, bonus and genuine opportunities to progress through the firm’s established probate career framework.
