About the role

Join Lancaster City Council as a Compliance Inspector and play a vital role in keeping our community safe. You will help protect residents by ensuring that council-owned properties, especially high-rise blocks, meet all safety standards. Your work will directly contribute to creating secure, hazard-free living environments and supporting the Council’s commitment to safety, well-being, and sustainability.

What You’ll Be Doing
You will carry out regular inspections of fire doors, emergency lighting, alarms, and communal areas, ensuring compliance with fire safety, asbestos, gas, electrical, and water hygiene regulations. You’ll monitor and report on safety issues, liaise with contractors, and communicate clearly with tenants about safety measures. Your attention to detail will help identify hazards such as slip and trip risks, fire hazards, and other building safety concerns, ensuring corrective actions are taken promptly to maintain safe and welcoming homes for our residents.

You’ll Fit Right In If…
You have a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and a customer-focused approach. You must have demonstrable skills in practical health and safety management, including building inspections and identifying slip, trip, and fire hazards. Experience in public-facing roles will help you thrive. You’ll be confident using IT to record data and able to build positive relationships with tenants and colleagues. A full driving licence is essential. Above all, you share our values of Working Together, Ambition, Pride, and Ownership, and are committed to making a real difference in the community.
