The Role

The main purpose of this post is to provide a graduated and person-centred approach to supporting students with a Hearing Impairment and/or Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a post-16 learning environment.

You will support students to access the curriculum, participate fully in learning and college life, experience achievement, and develop greater confidence and independence in their learning and wider life skills.

A key aspect of the role will be supporting students with a Hearing Impairment through effective communication, including the use of British Sign Language (BSL). The successful candidate may also be required to provide BSL communication/signing support for individual students on a 1:1 basis, depending on their identified needs and the provision required to enable them to access their programme of study.

You will have knowledge and experience of supporting students with Hearing Impairment and SEND, alongside a genuine commitment to making a positive difference to students' educational experiences. You will work collaboratively with teaching staff, Learning Support colleagues and other professionals to promote inclusion, independence and high expectations for all students.

Above all, you will be committed to ensuring that our students receive an inclusive, supportive and outstanding educational experience.

What Will You Bring to the Role

  • Adapting: You will need to adapt your communication and support approach to meet the individual needs of students with Hearing Impairment and/or SEND.
  • Collaborating: You will work closely with students, teaching staff, Learning Support colleagues and other professionals.
  • Focused & Attentive: You will need to remain focused and attentive to students' individual needs while supporting them within busy post-16 learning environments.
  • Persistence: You will demonstrate patience, persistence and determination when supporting students to overcome barriers to learning, communication and participation.
