Location: Plymouth

Position Type: Long-Term Contract

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Pay Rate: £92.56 - £95.00 per day


About the Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in young people's lives? We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Alternative Provision setting in Plymouth on a long-term contract.

In this role, you will work closely with pupils who face barriers to learning, helping them re-engage with education, overcome personal challenges, and rebuild their self-esteem in a safe, structured environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support students on a 1:1 and small group basis, tailored to their individual learning and emotional needs.

  • Help young people build confidence, resilience, and positive attitudes toward their education.

  • Assist classroom teachers in delivering engaging, accessible learning activities.

  • Manage challenging behaviours with patience, de-escalation techniques, and positive reinforcement.

  • Foster an inclusive environment that encourages emotional wellbeing and social development.


Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or within an Alternative Provision / PRU setting is highly desirable.

  • A patient, adaptable, and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable learners.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.

  • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
