Role Overview

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to provide high-quality legal advice and support across the Council on a range of employment law matters.

The successful candidate will manage their own caseload, advise HR and managers on complex employment issues, and provide legal support in relation to disputes, claims and employment tribunals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist employment law advice to HR, managers and senior officers.
• Advise on disciplinary, grievance, dismissal and redundancy matters.
• Provide advice on discrimination, equalities and contractual issues.
• Advise on TUPE, restructures and organisational change.
• Manage a varied caseload of employment-related legal matters.
• Handle and advise on Employment Tribunal claims and litigation.
• Draft and review legal documents, correspondence and agreements.
• Represent the Council at hearings, tribunals and committees where required.
• Identify and manage legal risks and provide clear, practical advice.
• Work closely with Council services, HR teams and other legal professionals.
• Keep up to date with relevant employment legislation, regulations and case law.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEx.
• Strong professional experience in Employment Law.
• Experience managing an employment law caseload independently.
• Experience advising employers on complex employment matters.
• Experience dealing with Employment Tribunal claims and hearings.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and case law.
• Excellent drafting, communication and negotiation skills.

Desirable Experience

• Previous Local Authority/Council or wider public sector experience.
• Experience working closely with HR departments and senior management.
• Experience dealing with complex employment disputes within a large organisation.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Employment Solicitor/Lawyer who can work independently, provide commercially and legally sound advice, and confidently manage employment matters from initial advice through to tribunal proceedings.

Local Authority/Public Sector employment law experience would be highly desirable.
