About the role

We are seeking a reliable, organised and enthusiastic Science Technician to join our Science Department. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning by preparing equipment and materials for practical lessons, maintaining laboratory resources, and ensuring that health and safety standards are consistently met.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will help create a safe, engaging and effective learning environment for students across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble and clear away equipment, chemicals and materials required for science lessons and practical activities.
  • Provide technical support to teaching staff during practical lessons where required.
  • Maintain laboratories, preparation rooms and equipment in a safe, clean and organised condition.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels, placing orders and maintaining inventory records.
  • Assist with the safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with current regulations.
  • Carry out routine maintenance, testing and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, COSHH regulations and school procedures.
  • Support the development and preparation of practical demonstrations and experiments.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to equipment, chemicals and safety checks.
  • Assist with displays, open evenings and departmental events where required.
  • Contribute to the efficient day-to-day operation of the Science Department.
Person SpecificationEssential
  • Good standard of education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
Desirable
  • Previous experience working as a Science Technician or within a laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations and CLEAPSS guidance.
  • Experience working within a school or educational setting.
  • Science qualification at A-Level or equivalent.
