Job description

Post background:

Are you passionate about delivering great digital projects that make a real difference? At JNCC, our Digital and Data Solutions Team plays a vital role in supporting biodiversity and nature conservation through innovative, user-focused technology.

As a Digital Delivery Manager, you’ll work at the interface of science and business, helping teams across the organisation turn their digital ideas into practical, effective solutions. We use agile methodologies and a user-centred design approach to ensure our products are both technically robust and genuinely meet the needs of their users. Our work aligns with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards, ensuring high-quality, secure, and accessible digital services.

The projects you’ll manage are varied and meaningful - from processing satellite data on supercomputers, to developing systems that track species and habitats, to streamlining internal business processes. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team that brings together expertise in application development, data engineering, project management, data protection, and information management.

You’ll join a supportive group of Digital Delivery Managers and collaborate closely with project leads across JNCC. The role offers plenty of opportunities to explore areas of personal interest and work alongside experts. While a background in ecology or conservation is not essential, an interest in the natural world and a desire to contribute to its protection will serve you well.

Post Duties:

The main duties of the Digital Delivery Manager post are to:

  • Lead the delivery of digital projects from initiation through to completion, managing scope, timelines, risks, iterative development, and resources across internal teams, external partners and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across science and business teams to identify digital needs and develop appropriate user-centred solutions, including gathering user requirements, conducting business analysis, and evaluating delivery options.
  • Guide projects through governance processes and assurance, ensuring alignment with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.
  • Support the delivery of data products, enabling the effective flow, storage, processing and presentation of scientific and corporate data through robust pipelines, platforms, visualisations and reporting tools that meet user and organisational needs.
  • Manage and mentor multidisciplinary project teams, encouraging best practices in data and information management, security, and accessibility.
  • Foster knowledge sharing and capability building, coaching colleagues and contributing to a culture of digital confidence across the organisation.
  • Contribute to portfolio-level planning and prioritisation, helping to align digital delivery with organisational strategy and progress a rationalised digital estate.

Stay informed of emerging technologies and digital trends, advising on their relevance and application to JNCC’s work.
