Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.

Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.

Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.

The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Senior Regulatory Practitioner to join our Environmental Protection and Noise Team at Milton Keynes City Council. This is a key role within our Regulatory Service, leading on the investigation and resolution of complex noise issues affecting residents, communities and businesses across Milton Keynes.

Working at the forefront of environmental protection, you will manage a varied caseload of statutory nuisance and noise-related investigations, provide specialist advice, undertake enforcement activity where necessary, and work proactively with residents, businesses and partner organisations to deliver positive outcomes. You will also support the wider objectives of the Regulatory Service, helping to protect and improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of our communities.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll provide technical expertise, lead specialist areas of work, support the development of colleagues and contribute to the effective delivery of the service. This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site

Role Responsibilities

• Deputise for the Principal Environmental Health Officer and support the effective management and delivery of the service.
• Investigate service requests from residents and businesses, ensuring appropriate outcomes are achieved in line with legislation, policy and procedures.
• Lead specialist areas of environmental health work and manage projects to agreed objectives and timescales.
• Undertake inspections, investigations and enforcement activity relating to complex, high-risk and sensitive cases.
• Carry out legal investigations and use appropriate enforcement powers to protect communities and support compliance.
• Support the training, development and ongoing guidance of less experienced colleagues within the service.

Ideal Candidate

• You hold a recognised Environmental Health qualification, or an equivalent qualification supported by substantial experience and specialist knowledge within the field.
• With a strong track record of investigating serious and complex environmental health cases, you can make balanced and proportionate decisions in challenging situations.
• Bringing experience of leading projects and delivering outcomes to agreed deadlines, you are organised, resilient and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
• A natural problem solver, you can work independently, use your initiative and make sound professional judgements that may have significant legal or financial implications.
• Experienced in supporting and guiding colleagues, you are keen to share knowledge and contribute to the development of others within the team.
• Able to travel to locations as required
• Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively across a wide range of environments and stakeholders.
