Assistant Accountant

Reporting to: Accounts Manager

Working Pattern: Office-based

Location: Bensham, Gateshead

Hours: 8:00am to 4:00pm or 9:00am to 5:00pm

KCR Solutions are assisting this growing group of companies who have a diverse portfolio spanning commercial and residential properties, in their search for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant/Bookkeeper. You will join a team of four, reporting directly to the Accounts Manager.

This is a varied and hands-on role that combines transactional finance responsibilities with month-end accounting duties. You will gain exposure across multiple companies and sectors, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their accounting experience and develop their management accounts capability. The successful candidate will be comfortable rolling up their sleeves to support day-to-day finance operations while also contributing to month-end accounts production. Our client is looking for someone who enjoys working in a busy environment, has excellent attention to detail, and takes pride in producing accurate work.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with sales ledger and purchase ledger processes
• Processing and reconciling supplier invoices and customer accounts
• Supporting payment runs and ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and on time
• Maintaining accurate financial records across multiple entities
• Assisting with the preparation of month end accounts
• Posting journals, including accruals and prepayments
• Completing balance sheet reconciliations
• Performing bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and entities
• Preparation of VAT returns.
• Supporting fixed asset accounting and asset disposals
• Assisting with cashflow reporting and forecasting
• Investigating and resolving accounting discrepancies
• Supporting year-end audit requirements as required
• Ensuring financial data is accurate and maintained to a high standard
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the finance department
• Contributing ideas to improve processes and efficiencies through technology and automation

Skills & Experience

• Good understanding of month-end accounting processes
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Proactive and willing to support both transactional and accounting activities
• Experience working in a multi-entity environment
• Experience using Xero accounting software would be an advantage but not essential
