About the role


Our client, a prominent authority in the highways sector, is currently seeking a Traffic Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This is focusing on delivering a range of route and area-based schemes aimed at enhancing walking and cycling infrastructure within the borough.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting internal senior project managers and engineers on the development of feasibility reports/studies and concept designs for various schemes.
  • Assisting and supporting the team with public consultation and community engagement activities, including drafting consultation material.
  • Undertaking site surveys, traffic surveys and various other data collection and site investigation works as required.
  • Liaising and coordinating with other teams within the Highway service and across the Council to ensure projects align with stakeholders' needs and priorities.
  • Preparing briefings and reports for a range of audiences, including technical reports for Transport for London, Council Scheme approval reports, and Councillor briefings.
  • Preparing outline construction cost estimates for schemes.
  • Assisting senior project managers in developing and maintaining project programmes.
  • Assisting senior project managers with the financial control and governance of projects.
  • Assisting in the preparation of Traffic Management Orders and Statutory Notices associated with projects.
  • Working closely with the Highways Service Construction Team to progress projects through detailed design and construction.

Job Requirements:

  • Proficiency in traffic engineering and design, particularly with AutoCAD.
  • Experience supporting the development of feasibility reports and concept designs.
  • Strong skills in public consultation and community engagement.
  • Experience in conducting site and traffic surveys.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Understanding of project financial control and governance.
  • Knowledge of preparing Traffic Management Orders and Statutory Notices.
  • Effective collaboration skills with internal teams and external stakeholders.
