Design Manager

We are recruiting for an experienced Design Manager to join a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering a large project in the South West on a temporary basis.

This role will involve managing the design process from pre-construction through to project completion, coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, engaging with clients and stakeholders, and ensuring designs are delivered in line with programme, budget, quality, and compliance requirements.

Location: Wiltshire

Rate: Competitive day rate (Inside IR35)

Contract: 6 months - immediate start

Responsibilities

• Coordinate architects, consultants, subcontractors and internal delivery teams.
• Ensure design information is produced in line with project programmes.
• Identify and manage design risks and technical issues.
• Review design deliverables for quality, buildability and compliance.
• Work closely with commercial, planning and operational teams to support successful project delivery.
• Maintain effective communication with clients and key stakeholders.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Design Manager with a Tier 1 or major main contractor.
• Experience delivering complex construction projects within sectors such as defence, justice, healthcare, education or commercial.
• Previous experience on Ministry of Justice (MoJ) or Ministry of Defence (MoD) projects is highly desirable.
• Candidates without MoJ or MoD experience will still be considered if they have a strong background delivering major projects for a Tier 1 contractor.
• Strong understanding of design management processes, construction methodologies and current Building Regulations.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Relevant construction qualification (HNC/HND, degree or equivalent) is preferred.
• BPSS Clearance will be required (Can be processed once successful but must be eligible).
