About the role
Mechanical Design Engineer Copello are currently supporting a leading technology business in the search for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team, working on advanced RF, microwave and mmWave products across telecommunications, aerospace, defence and space. This is a hands-on role covering the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to prototyping, testing and production. Key Responsibilities Design precision mechanical components and assemblies for RF, microwave and mmWave products, including enclosures, heatsinks, cooling systems and waveguide structures. Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks. Develop lightweight, thermally efficient and structurally robust designs for demanding applications. Carry out or support FEA, thermal and CFD analysis to validate mechanical and cooling solutions. Work closely with RF, electronics and systems engineers to ensure mechanical design supports RF performance, EMI/EMC, thermal and environmental requirements. Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection and DFM/DFA principles. Design for manufacturing using processes such as CNC machining, die casting, additive manufacturing and sheet metal. Produce BOMs, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation. Support prototyping, environmental testing, first article builds and production introduction. Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues and improve designs. Support engineering changes, design reviews and continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle. Key Requirements Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering. Strong 2D/3D CAD experience, ideally SolidWorks. Experience designing high-precision mechanical components and assemblies. Strong knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, materials and manufacturing processes. Experience with CNC machining, particularly aluminium, would be advantageous. Understanding of thermal management, structural design and mechanical analysis. Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams. Familiarity with PDM/PLM and engineering change processes. Desirable Experience within aerospace, defence, space or telecommunications. RF/mmWave experience, including waveguides, filters, amplifiers or RF assemblies. Experience with FEA, CFD or thermal simulation. Knowledge of MIL-STD, ECSS or other high-reliability design standards. Experience with environmental qualification, vibration or thermal vacuum testing. Experience supporting suppliers, first article inspection or NPI.
