About the role
Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant – DN3 – September Start
Provide Education are working with a secondary school in the DN3 area who are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This role will focus on supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities across KS3 and KS4. You will work within the classroom to help students access their learning and may provide support on a 1:1 or small-group basis, depending on the needs of the pupils.
There may also be opportunities to work within the school’s SEND hub, supporting students who require a more tailored approach to their education and wellbeing.
The needs of the students will vary and could include autism, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia and dyspraxia, so the ability to adapt your approach and build positive relationships is essential.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs is desirable
- A patient, calm and nurturing approach
- Confidence supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to adapt support to individual students
- Consistent approach to behaviour and emotional regulation
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Transferable experience is welcome, with applications encouraged from candidates with backgrounds in support work, childcare, healthcare, social care, youth work, sports coaching or similar roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Support SEND students within mainstream classroom settings
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support as required and help pupils access and engage with the curriculum
- Support students with autism, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, dyspraxia and other additional needs
- Provide reassurance and encouragement to students who may experience barriers to learning
- Work within the school’s SEND hub where required
- Follow individual support strategies and guidance from teaching and SEND staff
- Encourage independence, confidence and positive engagement
