Location: South Leeds, West Yorkshire
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2026
Are you an experienced SEN Teacher passionate about preparing young adults with complex needs for adulthood, independent living, and employment?
Do you excel at delivering creative, practical pathways in Functional English, Maths, and essential Life and Employability skills?
Are you seeking a rewarding, long-term teaching role starting this September within a modern, purpose-built specialist setting in South Leeds?
If so, Randstad Education wants to hear from you. We are currently recruiting an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Post 16 Teacher to lead a vibrant class of young adults on a long-term basis starting September 2026.
About the Setting
Located in the LS11 area of South Leeds, this modern, purpose-built Post 16 hub forms part of an outstanding Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC). The provision is specifically designed to bridge the gap between school and adulthood for students aged 16 to 19 with a range of complex needs, including severe learning difficulties (SLD), autism spectrum conditions (ASC), and physical or communication challenges. Operating with state-of-the-art facilities, independent living suites, and strong community links, the school focuses on personal autonomy, community participation, and vocational pathways. Supported by low pupil-to-staff ratios and an on-site multidisciplinary therapy team, they offer a safe, empowering environment where every student's journey to independence is celebrated.
Role and Responsibilities
In this long-term teaching position, you will take lead responsibility for planning and delivering a tailored Post 16 curriculum aimed at preparing students for life beyond education.
Key duties include:
Designing and delivering practical, highly engaging lessons focused on Home & Employability Skills, alongside Functional English and Maths.
Implementing vocational activities, community-based learning, and enterprise projects to develop real-world life skills and work readiness.
Adapting teaching strategies to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and independent living goals.
Leading and deploying a dedicated team of classroom support assistants to maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment.
Incorporating total communication approaches (e.g., visual schedules, PECS, Makaton, or assistive technology) to support student choice and autonomy.
Assessing student progress using specialist Post 16 accreditation frameworks and contributing to EHCP annual reviews.
Skills Required
Proven track record of teaching young adults (16-19 age range) with complex special educational needs (SLD/ASC/PMLD).
Expertise in delivering functional skills (English & Maths) alongside practical independent living, home management, and employability programs.
Passion for developing community access, vocational opportunities, and life-skills pathways for SEN learners.
Strong classroom leadership skills, coupled with a patient, empowering, and person-centred approach.
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
Prior experience teaching within a UK special school, SILC, or Post 16 SEN provision.
An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad).
