The role also contributes to assurance reviews, incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring findings lead to practical and measurable improvements. It supports consistent risk frameworks, reliable reporting and evidence-based decision-making, while developing strong relationships across the business.

Responsibilities and Objectives

  • Embed a proactive risk and control culture across assigned business areas, ensuring key risks and controls are clearly identified, assessed, documented and regularly reviewed.
  • Facilitate risk workshops and provide objective, proportionate challenge to business owners on risk exposure, control design and control effectiveness.
  • Create and maintain practical risk and control registers, with clear alignment between enterprise, intermediate and local risks.
  • Ensure risk and control assessments are evidence-based and supported by appropriate key risk and performance indicators.
  • Lead and deliver assurance reviews, incident investigations and root cause analyses, agreeing and tracking improvement actions through to completion.
  • Produce accurate, timely and insightful reporting for senior leadership and governance forums, escalating matters where agreed risk appetite or tolerance is exceeded.
  • Support the development and delivery of an integrated assurance plan and maintain a coherent assurance risk and control universe.
  • Improve risk methodologies, templates, reporting processes and governance tools to increase consistency, efficiency and user experience.
  • Build trusted relationships across the organisation and act as a recognised point of expertise for risk and control matters.
  • Lead relevant projects from development to deployment, maintaining effective governance and quality standards.
  • Significant, demonstrable experience in risk and control management, including risk frameworks, governance, risk appetite, policies, processes, management information and reporting.
  • Practical experience reviewing risks and controls across operational, commercial and technology environments.
  • Experience creating risk and control registers, embedding frameworks and implementing KPIs, KRIs or risk-management tools.
  • Experience in an engineering industry or engineering-led organisation would be helpful.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the judgement to interpret evidence, identify root causes and recommend pragmatic solutions.
  • Confidence and credibility to influence senior stakeholders, facilitate workshops and provide constructive challenge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and support sound decision-making.
  • Strong relationship-building and project-delivery skills, with a collaborative and commercially aware approach.
  • A degree or equivalent professional experience is desirable; a relevant qualification such as ACA, CIMA, IIA, CII or equivalent would be beneficial but is not essential.
