About the role
Job summary
RAF Cranwell is seeking a Service Funds Clerk to support the governance, assurance and financial management of Service Funds across the Station. The post plays a key role in ensuring that non-public funds are administered appropriately, financial records are maintained accurately and all activities comply with MOD policy and regulatory requirements.
Working within the Service Funds Accounting Section, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial transactions, producing monthly accounts, supporting annual financial reporting and maintaining effective audit trails. The role contributes directly to the assurance framework that underpins Service Funds governance and provides confidence that public trust and financial accountability are maintained across all fund activities.
The post holder will support internal examinations, assurance visits and compliance activities, ensuring that financial information is accurate, timely and fully compliant with relevant regulations. They will work closely with fund managers and stakeholders across the Station, providing administrative and accounting support that enables Service Funds to operate effectively and transparently.
This is a key business support role requiring a high degree of accuracy, integrity and attention to detail. The successful candidate will play an important part in maintaining sound financial governance and supporting the delivery of accounting services that enable service personnel and station organisations to manage Service Funds effectively.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
The successful candidate will support the management and administration of Non-Public Funds and Service Funds accounting activities at RAF Cranwell.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and managing inter-fund transfer journals and supporting financial transactions.
- Ensuring all non-public fund activity complies with relevant MOD policy and accounting regulations.
- Producing monthly financial reports, including trial balances and statements of account.
- Supporting the preparation of annual financial accounts and balance sheets.
- Assisting with Internal Examination and Service Funds Assurance Team inspections and visits.
- Preparing financial documentation and returns required by higher authority.
- Supporting governance and assurance activities to ensure effective financial management.
- Providing advice and assistance to fund managers and stakeholders on Service Funds procedures.
- Maintaining accurate records and audit trails to support financial accountability.
- Deputising for the Officer Commanding Service Funds Accounting Section when required.
- Using Microsoft Office applications and accounting systems to maintain financial records and produce reports.
- Undertaking occasional travel in support of Service Funds business requirements.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual with excellent organisational skills and a keen eye for detail. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, manage competing priorities and maintain high standards of accuracy when handling financial information.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of working in an administrative, financial or business support environment
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines and work independently.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and support informed decision-making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Demonstrable commitment to delivering a high-quality customer-focused service while maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.
- Able to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience of financial administration, bookkeeping or accounting processes.
- Experience of audit, assurance or compliance-related activity.
- Knowledge of Service Funds, non-public accounting or similar financial governance arrangements.
- Experience of using financial management or accounting software packages.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement. All office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to site capacity and any required workplace adjustments.
