HMRC Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) Group is responsible for HMRC’s IT estate, including building and running IT services, leading digital transformation projects, and delivering operational support to our colleagues and customers.

The live services we provide enable billions of pounds of tax to be collected, benefits to be paid to customers in need, and ensure the smooth movement of goods into and out of the UK. We are relied upon to deliver to a high standard to ensure the smooth running of the department for our colleagues and millions of HMRC customers.

This role sits within Finance, Portfolio, Performance and Organisational Transformation (FPPOT) and covers the full remit of CDIO teams.

You will play a key role in connecting strategic priorities with delivery, helping CDIO to understand performance, progress and emerging risks.
Working closely with senior leaders and teams across HMRC, you will support business planning, performance reporting, annual reporting and executive decision making.

The role combines analysis, planning and stakeholder engagement. You will help coordinate key organisational processes, respond to requests from Executive Committee (ExCom) and senior leaders and develop high quality products that provide insight and support effective decision making.

Job description

Support the coordination and delivery of the CDIO Business Plan, Annual Report, Commitments and organisational reporting processes.

Contribute to the development of performance and insight products, including quarterly reviews, annual reporting and leadership performance packs.

Analyse information from a range of sources to identify trends, risks, opportunities and emerging issues.

Respond to commissions from ExCom, Senior Leaders and the Director General's office, providing timely analysis, briefing and advice.

Work with business areas to understand delivery progress, challenges and dependencies, helping to build an accurate view of organisational performance.

Translate complex information into clear and accessible products tailored to different audiences.

Build effective relationships across CDIO and partner functions to improve planning, performance management and organisational insight.

Support continuous improvement of planning, reporting and performance management processes.

Essential Criteria

Experience of supporting business planning, performance, strategy, delivery or organisational reporting activities.

Experience of analysing information from multiple sources and communicating findings clearly to senior audiences.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.

Experience of building effective stakeholder relationships and working collaboratively across organisational boundaries.

Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs to challenging deadlines.

Ability to exercise judgement when responding to emerging issues, requests and commissions.

Desirable Criteria

Have strong organisational awareness and the ability to understand how individual activities contribute to wider strategic priorities and outcomes.

Communicate in a straightforward, honest and engaging manner, choosing appropriate styles to maximise understanding and influence.

Ensure that important messages are communicated with colleagues and stakeholders respectfully, taking into consideration the diversity of interests.
