About the role

Teaching Assistant - Day-to-Day Supply (Primary Schools)

Are you looking for flexible classroom work across Okehampton that fits your schedule while making a real impact? We are seeking adaptable, compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to provide day-to-day supply cover and 1:1 support across mainstream primary schools in Okehampton and the surrounding West Devon areas.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Provide flexible, 1:1 or small-group support to primary-aged pupils with Special Educational Needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH).

  • Adapt classroom activities on the fly to match individual learning styles and capabilities.

  • Use practical strategies, such as visual schedules and sensory tools, to support emotional regulation and keep pupils engaged.

  • Help build pupils' confidence, social communication skills, and independence in the classroom.

  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCos, and school staff to maintain a consistent environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Prior experience working with primary-aged children with additional needs (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or complex needs).

  • A patient, resilient, and proactive approach to managing behaviour and supporting learning.

  • Strong communication skills to liaise quickly with local school staff.

  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply).

  • Relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualifications, or background experience in care/youth work, are highly valued.

What We Offer

  • Pay: £92.56 - £95.00 per day (paid weekly via PAYE).

  • Hours: Standard school hours (approx. 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, term time only).

  • Flexibility: Complete control over your availability-work as many or as few days a week as you like.

  • Variety: Gain broad experience across a diverse range of primary schools throughout Okehampton and the surrounding rural communities.
