📍 Location: Rotherham, South Yorkshire (Hybrid / Supervisory Body)

💰 Pay Rate: £30.12 per hour (Umbrella)

⏱️ Contract: Full-Time / Locum (Ongoing)

Role Overview

Are you an experienced Best Interests Assessor (BIA) or Social Care Professional with expertise in the Mental Capacity Act? We are seeking a DoLS Authorised Signatory to join the Supervisory Body team in Rotherham.

In this vital role, you will act on behalf of the Supervisory Body to scrutinize, quality-assure, and sign off Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards assessments, ensuring all legal requirements are strictly met and human rights are upheld.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance: Review Form 3, Form 4, and Form 5 documentation submitted by BIAs and Mental Health Assessors for legal accuracy, quality, and compliance.

  • Authorisation: Formally authorize or decline Deprivation of Liberty applications on behalf of the Local Authority (Supervisory Body).

  • Risk & Rights Oversight: Ensure conditions imposed are proportionate, necessary, and represent the least restrictive option in line with the Mental Capacity Act (2005).

  • Expert Consultation: Provide high-level guidance to assessors, care homes, and hospital managing authorities regarding complex legal/capacity issues.

  • Appeals & Reviews: Manage Section 21A court challenges and manage request-for-review processes effectively.

Requirements & Experience

  • Qualification: Qualified Social Worker (Social Work England registered), Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Chartered Psychologist.

  • Specialism: Certified Best Interests Assessor (BIA) qualification is essential.

  • Experience: Proven experience carrying out or scrutinizing DoLS assessments within a Supervisory Body or Local Authority context.

  • Knowledge: Expert understanding of the Mental Capacity Act (2005), DoLS Code of Practice, and relevant case law (e.g., Cheshire West).
