Role: Project Manager - Vault Mitigation Team
Location: Burnaby, BC
Duration: August 31, 2026 - August 30, 2027
Max INC Rate: $74.81
Max T4 Rate: $63.40
Role Summary:
We are the Vault Mitigation Team within BC Hydro’s Program and Contract Management group. We are responsible for delivering urgent, high-profile projects, to mitigate safety risks. The Vault Mitigation Team is a specialized team with dedicated focus on distribution end of-life replacements, maintenance, refurbishment of assets. The team currently has 2 projects ramping up replacing the Victoria Integrated Network and the remaining MKII/PMH Livefront Switchgear province wide.
Experience and Role Accountabilities

A minimum five (5) years of project management experience or equivalent.

Plan, direct, and report on infrastructure and other construction project activities by consistently monitoring project benefits, resources and status and creating documents such as project plans, action logs, communication plans, status reports and post implementation reviews so that the project is implemented as planned.

Develop project plans and risk management plans for low to medium risk infrastructure or other construction projects with a capital cost that is generally up to $20 million for effective management throughout the project lifecycle.

Manage multiple activities effectively such as quality assurance, engineering, First Nations and stakeholder engagement, communication, regulatory approvals, procurement, planning and controls, construction management, pre-commissioning, employee relations, and safety by using project management principles in monitoring progress and establishing standards for implementation to keep the project within allotted time and budget.

Complete project management activities including scoping, planning, managing, monitoring, and reporting on project tasks by using intermediate skills in Microsoft Office as well as project management programs to fulfill BC Hydro’s business needs.

Maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders including customers, engineers and field crews through regular communication using excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills enabling timely progression of projects.
Education and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Economics or related discipline

Bachelor’s degree Engineering, an asset

Project Management Professional (PMP®) designation, preferred

Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project)

Advanced English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
Requirements

Demonstrated leadership and communication ability

5 years of progressively complex project, program, or business management. Experience within utilities is an asset but not required

Bachelor’s degree or Project and/or Program Management certification, or equivalent experience

Excellent communication (both orally and in writing), facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills along with demonstrating planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Emotional Intelligence and ability to receive feedback and learn

Ability to “connect-the-dots”, focus on task at hand and see the bigger the picture

Ability to be agile and adaptable
What you’ll do
-
You’ll work with the broader team to develop strategies while also managing end-to-end processes for discrete tasks, including project progress monitoring, reporting, forecasting, design management, construction management, field data management, problem solving and escalation

Engage collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including internal and external parties, and ensure they have clear directions and set expectations. Facilitate complex decision-making, identify/escalate risks or roadblocks, and work effectively to achieve the objectives of projects

Analyze and interpret complex data (financial or asset related) with strong analytical skills to drive progress and/or strategic decision-making

Verify field data for technical teams and communicate complex technical solutions into actionable steps

Ensure communication between field crews and technical teams for reporting and documenting of defects and/or site issues

Develop and execute innovative strategies to maximize efficiency and delivery of programs
-
Regularly meet with the team and project/program initiators to provide updates (operational and financial) and discuss common issues, strategies, and lessons learned

Represent BC Hydro as the “Contract Owner” or the “Hydro Rep” on contracts. Support project teams to reduce BC Hydro’s exposure to contract claims and participate in contract and claim negotiations with suppliers and contractors. Review and/or approve consultant or contractor deliverables and invoices.

Manage project close out activities including writing close out reports, engagement with stakeholders, data gathering and quality assurance.

Travel as required for project delivery or team engagement
