About the role

KS1 Class Teacher, 0.9 Permanent

Newbrough Church of England Primary School
0.9 FTE, Permanent
KS1, 16 pupils

An exciting opportunity to join our school

We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and ambitious teacher to join our team at Newbrough Church of England Primary School.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take responsibility for a wonderful KS1 class of just 16 children, within a small, supportive school where staff know every child well and work closely together.

Whether you are developing your classroom practice or bring significant experience to the role, we are looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to make a real difference within a small school community.

The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced Deputy Headteacher and wider staff team, with excellent opportunities for support, professional development and, over time, the chance to develop wider curriculum and leadership experience.

About Newbrough

Newbrough is a small Church of England primary school where relationships really matter. We are proud of our family atmosphere, our ambitious curriculum and the opportunities we provide for our children both inside and beyond the classroom.

Our recent Ofsted inspection captured what makes our school special:

“Pupils love being part of the Newbrough Church of England Primary School family. They feel valued by the staff who know them well.”

Ofsted also recognised that pupils are kind to each other, enjoy their learning and benefit from a wide range of experiences beyond the classroom.

We are particularly proud of the support and development available to our staff. Ofsted noted that:

“Teachers receive high-quality, well informed professional development.”

Our size means that teachers have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues and school leaders, while also benefiting from the wider professional opportunities available through Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Learning Trust.

The opportunity

You will teach a KS1 class of 16 pupils, giving you the opportunity to really know every child, understand how they learn and see the impact of your teaching.

You will be supported by an experienced Deputy Headteacher and a committed wider team. We place a strong emphasis on collaboration, professional development and sharing good practice, and support can be tailored to the experience and development needs of the successful candidate.

For someone developing their teaching practice, this provides an excellent environment in which to learn from experienced colleagues and grow in confidence. For a more experienced teacher, the size and structure of our school provides opportunities to have a significant influence on curriculum development and the wider life of the school.

We are looking for someone who
  • is an enthusiastic and reflective classroom practitioner

  • has high expectations for every child

  • understands how young children learn and can make learning engaging and memorable

  • has strong knowledge of, or a commitment to developing their expertise in, phonics and early reading

  • builds warm, positive relationships with children

  • values teamwork and is keen to work collaboratively with colleagues

  • welcomes professional development and opportunities to further develop their practice

  • will contribute enthusiastically to the wider life of our small school

  • will support and uphold the Christian ethos and values of Newbrough

  • wants to become an important part of our school community.

What we can offer
  • A permanent 0.9 teaching position

  • A KS1 class of only 16 children

  • Close support from an experienced Deputy Headteacher and senior leadership team

  • A school that genuinely invests in professional development

  • Support and development tailored to your experience and career stage

  • Friendly, enthusiastic children who are known well by staff

  • A committed and supportive staff team

  • Opportunities to develop curriculum and leadership experience

  • Wider professional opportunities through Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Learning Trust

  • Strong links with our families, church and local community

  • The opportunity to play a significant role in the continuing development of an ambitious small rural school.

Most importantly, we can offer a school where you will be known, supported and given the opportunity to grow.

If you are an enthusiastic teacher who shares our ambition for our children and would like to become part of the Newbrough family, we would love to hear from you.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged. -
