Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting an experienced PC&A Inspector to join the engineering team at a major, high-speed manufacturing operation in Port Talbot.

This is a hands-on technical role supporting a large, highly automated industrial process, where PLCs, control systems, instrumentation, drives and plant equipment work together to maintain safe and efficient production.

The role would suit an experienced PC&A Engineer, Controls Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer, Electrical Controls Technician, Electrical Maintenance Engineer or Industrial Electrician with strong fault-finding skills and a genuine interest in industrial automation and controls.

The Role

This is a hands-on problem-solving position working across a complex production environment.

You'll use your knowledge of PLCs, instrumentation and control systems to investigate faults and support the continued operation of the plant.

You may be diagnosing PLC-related issues, tracing faults through plant end devices, investigating instrumentation, working with AC or DC drives, or helping identify why equipment isn't performing as expected.

You'll also support planned maintenance and improvement work, with opportunities to contribute ideas that improve plant safety, reliability and efficiency.

The role involves some flexibility around overtime, particularly during breakdowns and planned maintenance periods.

Key Duties
  • Diagnose faults across PLCs, control systems, instrumentation and plant equipment.
  • Investigate issues with plant end devices and electrical control systems.
  • Work with AC and DC drives and motors.
  • Support planned maintenance activities.
  • Respond to breakdowns and help restore plant operation safely.
  • Contribute to plant improvement and reliability initiatives.
  • Work safely in accordance with electrical permit systems and site procedures.
  • Work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider engineering team.
Requirements

You'll need:

  • Approved electrical apprenticeship.
  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical or equivalent.
  • Relevant industrial engineering experience.
  • Strong electrical systems and fault-finding knowledge.
  • Ability to diagnose faults quickly and work methodically towards a solution.
  • Understanding of electrical permit systems and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The following experience would be advantageous:

  • PLC programming.
  • HMI development.
  • Industrial networks.
  • LV authorisation.
  • AC/DC drives.
  • Instrumentation.
  • Furnace systems.
  • Gas systems.

You don't need every skill listed. A strong electrical or controls background, combined with a willingness to develop your technical knowledge, is key.
