Job summary

The Ministry of Defence, Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from cyber and digital transformation, police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, psychologists, storekeepers, and policy secretariat staff to support the British Army.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the ACTS (Army Collective Training Service) Management Team, working alongside both military and civilian personnel to oversee contract performance and ensure the effective delivery of training that under-pins the Army’s operational success. You will gain valuable insight into military training operations and how contractual deliverables directly support these critical activities. You will be empowered to take ownership of key deliverables, influence decision-making, and contribute to the organisation’s strategic objectives.

Job description

In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the successful delivery of the ACTS contract. Working closely with the Strategic Training Partner (STP) and a range of stakeholders, you will ensure delivery is achieved in the most cost-effective and efficient manner, while maintaining a focus on quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Alongside this, you will contribute to a wider understanding of performance and risk across the LWC (Land Warfare Centre) contract portfolio.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure delivery is achieved in the most cost-effective and efficient manner, while tracking performance, mitigating risks, and leveraging opportunities in collaboration with the Strategic Training Provider.
  • Responsible for monitoring and improving contract performance, managing benefits realisation, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Conduct annual In-Service Reviews throughout the contract lifecycle to assess maturity levels, reflecting changes and modifications made to ACTS.
  • Employ problem-solving techniques to address challenges and take a proactive stance in mitigating issues as they arise.
  • Identify, share, and promote best practices and lessons learned to create a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • Manage, interpret, and utilise data to make informed decisions, improve efficiency, and achieve outcomes and benefits.
  • Leading on continued development of the LWC contract portfolio landscape. Identifying, assessing and mitigating risks associated across the portfolio, ensuring potential issues are proactively addressed. Supporting senior leadership through the effective use of performance and risk data.
  • Leverage opportunities to enhance contract delivery and outcomes in collaboration with the STP.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including corporate and domain leadership teams, external agencies, and benefit owners.
  • Chair or attend relevant meetings, ensuring adherence to organisational policies and promoting an inclusive working environment.
  • Developing and sharing your knowledge with others.

Essential skills required:
  • Proven experience in performance management, benefits realisation, and risk mitigation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to present and interpret data and drive evidence-based decision-making.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to identify and address challenges effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-motivated, confident in decision-making, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
  • A flexible and a collaborative attitude to team working, adapting to changing priorities and workloads and supporting the wider team as required.

Desirable skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex contracts and drive continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with public sector contracts
  • Contract Management Qualification (or willingness to complete)
