About the role

Job summary

Exciting opportunities have arisen for Data Scientists within the Data and Register Integrity Directorate. This includes the possibility of working directly on the Local Land Charges (LLC) Programme. As a skilled, enthusiastic, and motivated individual with strong Data Science skills, you will contribute to the development and deployment of machine‑learning and data‑science pipelines that extract and structure local authority data for migration onto HMLR’s digital register. Your work will involve improving and enhancing our Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing models, as well as deploying scalable solutions within an automated cloud environment. We are recruiting a cohort of 4 Data Scientists, who will be split across the Directorate and the LLC Programme.

Job description

In the role of a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Work in teams and collaborate with senior colleagues to complete tasks on Data Science projects
  • Work as a member of a team to understand where Data Science can add value with HMLR; Assemble data extraction and structuring pipelines, applying techniques from computer vision, natural language processing, and graph analysis
  • Perform data enrichment tasks
  • Contribute to the existing codebase to enhance functionality
  • Identify opportunities for modelling and analysis on newly gathered data and processes
  • Engage with stakeholders
  • Collaborate on the conceptualisation, development, and maintenance of Data Science solutions
  • Be open minded and demonstrate strong intellectual curiosity
  • Have an interdisciplinary interest and develop a familiarity with a wide variety of techniques to solve problems

Under HM Land Registry’s hybrid approach to working you will be expected to spend at least 60% of your working time in your contracted home office. You must live within a commutable distance of your chosen office.

Technical skills

  • A degree in a discipline with numerical or statistical elements; OR equivalent experience
  • A demonstrable portfolio of data science & machine learning
  • With peer support, you can apply emerging theory to practical situations
  • Able to write efficient and readable analytics code in Python that normally requires minimal basic changes at review time
  • Able to deliver analysis using AutoML or equivalent techniques
  • Can demonstrate ability to perform any ONE of: Deep Neural Nets (CNNs, Vision Transformers, GANs), image processing, object detection, segmentation, 3D vision, OCR, Geolocation & multimodal AI OR
