Job summary
The Ministry of Defence, Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from cyber and digital transformation, police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, psychologists, storekeepers, and policy secretariat staff to support the British Army.
We are seeking a motivated individual who enjoys using data and information to support business improvement. Working across the Army in the North of England, you will conduct research, contribute to policy development, identify technical solutions, and deliver a high standard of service to customers and stakeholders.This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
In this role, you will be responsible for all information and data management activities across JMC (Joint Military Command) North, including governance and assurance. Treating information as a strategic asset, you will ensure that information is managed and exploited effectively throughout its lifecycle to support operational effectiveness and compliance with legislation and MOD policy.Key responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and line management to a multidisciplinary iHub team of five personnel, comprising military staff, Civil Servants and contractors, with the potential for future expansion as requirements evolve.
- Responsible for all Information Management/Information Exploitation, coordinating SharePoint and PALANTIR activity.
- Principal advisor to JMC North Command Team and Hub Managers on optimising business outputs through effective information management.
- Ensure that information systems are optimised to satisfy information requirements, focussed on Key Performance Indicators.
- Identify and exploit emergent information systems and productivity tools (including AI) to optimise ways-of-working, delivering training and education where required. Permanent member of the Continuous Improvement Working Group.
- Appointed Data Protection Advisor (DPA) for JMC North. Lead on Information Assurance, including Subject Access Requests and all Data Protection Act (2018) matters.
- Working closely with planning, governance and establishment management teams to support organisational priorities and business improvement.
- Represent JMC North at conferences / meetings when required and any other tasks and outputs commensurate with grade and knowledge, skills and experience.
Person specification
Essential skills required:- HNC qualification (or equivalent), or relevant professional experience demonstrating the required knowledge and skills.
- We are seeking a confident, self-motivated individual who is a great teammate, hardworking and able to manage a complex and varied workload.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and build positive relationships with people at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and be flexible in your approach to your responsibilities.
- Adept at collating and analysing information from a variety of sources, and at communicating it in the optimal form to influence others.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
