About the role
Aircraft Engineering Supervisor (Mechanical) (Merlin)
RNAS Culdrose, Helston, Cornwall TR12 7RH
Competitive salary with excellent benefits
38 hours per week, Monday-Friday
Are you looking to develop your career in aviation supporting the Royal Navy? Do you have hands on aircraft experience? Keep doing what you do best – join our team at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose.
Whether you’re transitioning from the military or bringing rotary wing aircraft experience from industry, this is your opportunity to apply your skills where they truly matter – supporting the Royal Navy at one of the UK’s busiest military airfields.
At Serco, we’re proud to deliver aviation support services at RNAS Culdrose through the IMOS (Integrated Merlin Operational Support) and AESAS (Aircraft Engineering and Airfield Support) contracts. From hands-on aircraft maintenance to off-aircraft support, our team plays a vital role in keeping Merlin helicopters mission-ready.
As an aircraft engineer on our team, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering support across both AESAS and IMOS contracts. You’ll contribute to critical operational outcomes, working within a dynamic and highly regulated environment where precision and collaboration are essential.
What you’ll need:
- Minimum of 6 years working in an airworthiness environment, relevant experience for the Merlin aircraft, with a minimum of 2 years’ hands-on experience
You’ll also need previous experience and a good working knowledge of:
- Merlin aircraft engineering and aircraft systems
- Merlin aircraft servicing and support equipment
- Lean Operating Procedures
- Naval Air Publications and Compound Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (CIETP)
- Health and safety, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations, and tool control and quality practices
- An understanding of Engineering and Asset Management Systems
Ideally, you will also have completed a Maintenance Human Factors course and hold a Certificate of Competency at Supervisory level – but if not, we’ll support to achieve both!
Safety, precision and teamwork are at the heart of everything we do. Every task contributes to the operational readiness of the Royal Navy – and every detail matters.
Jock, a Mechanical Aircraft Engineering Supervisor at RNAS Culdrose, shares:
“We’re responsible for making sure our fitters follow procedures correctly, use the right tools, and get the specialist equipment they need. If things don’t go smoothly, we step in and make decisions to get the job done properly. Even tightening a single critical nut or bolt can require multiple checks and signoffs to ensure flight safety. We really feel the Navy appreciate us being here. We’ve spent years building up the reputation of this team, and we’re trusted to get on with the job. That makes a big difference.”
What we offer:
Salary: Competitive salary with annual reviews
Pension: Up to 6% contributory pension scheme
Holidays: 29 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
Training and development: We offer a wide range of learning opportunities with over 1,100 internal courses available, funding for qualifications and apprenticeships, mentoring opportunities, and a focus on internal progression
Wellbeing: 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme, BUPA Anytime HealthLine, wellbeing app, Simplyhealth cash plans to claim back money towards healthcare costs, 30% off at Serco-managed leisure centres
