About the role

PK Education are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity for an experienced QTS Teacher to join an SEN school in Sunderland as an Employer Engagement & Alternative Provision Teacher (Careers).

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate teacher who wants to make a real difference to young people with Special Educational Needs and help prepare them for life beyond school.

The successful candidate will work closely with pupils to develop their employability skills, career aspirations and preparation for adulthood, while also developing relationships with local employers and external organisations to create meaningful work experience and alternative provision opportunities.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting pupils with SEN to develop their career aspirations and employability skills.
  • Developing relationships with local employers, businesses, colleges and training providers.
  • Identifying and coordinating suitable work experience and alternative provision opportunities.
  • Delivering careers and work-related learning activities.
  • Supporting pupils before, during and after work experience placements.
  • Working closely with school staff, families and external agencies.
  • Ensuring placements are appropriate and meet individual pupil needs.
  • Promoting independence, confidence and preparation for adulthood.
  • Maintaining accurate records of pupil progress and engagement.
  • Following all safeguarding, health and safety and school policies.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS – essential.
  • Be available to work 5 days per week.
  • Have experience working with pupils with SEN, additional needs or within an alternative provision setting.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential.
  • Be confident communicating with employers and external organisations.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Be proactive, creative and able to build positive relationships.
  • Have high expectations of pupils and a commitment to their personal and career development.
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
