About the role

Locations: Pickering or Kincardine 
Vacancies: 5 positions
Work Arrangement: On-site, five days per week
Duration: 1 year (extended annually) 
Hourly Rate: $90 - $120/hour

Position Breakdown

  • 3 Mechanical Engineers with active OPG security clearance and experience with OPG’s Engineering Change Control (ECC) process.
  • 2 Mechanical Engineers with active Bruce Power security clearance, based at our client’s Kincardine facility.
  • Position Summary

Our client is seeking five experienced Mechanical Engineers to support complex engineering projects within Ontario’s nuclear power sector. The successful candidates will complete mechanical design, analysis, evaluation, specification development and field execution activities.

These positions require experienced contractors who can work independently, resolve complex technical issues and provide guidance to other engineering team members.

Key Responsibilities
Complete complex mechanical engineering assignments involving design, analysis, evaluation, specifications and field execution.
Prepare and review engineering calculations, designs, technical specifications and project documentation.
Evaluate mechanical systems, equipment and components against project, operational and safety requirements.
Develop or modify engineering methods, systems and models to address complex technical requirements.
Independently select and apply appropriate engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
Provide advanced technical support and guidance to other engineers and project team members.
Ensure engineering work complies with applicable codes, nuclear standards, quality requirements and client procedures.
Support equipment installation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and return-to-service activities.
Investigate technical issues and recommend practical engineering solutions.
Support field activities and resolve construction, installation or operational challenges.
Research industry best practices and recommend improvements to engineering processes and methods.
Monitor project progress and provide updates to engineering and project management.
Collaborate with clients, operations, project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Support the development or improvement of our client’s products, methods and technologies.
Participate in resolving technical issues identified by project management, business-line management or clients.
Perform additional technical and project-related duties as required.
OPG-Specific Requirements

Candidates supporting OPG projects must:
Have active OPG security clearance.
Be familiar with OPG’s Engineering Change Control process.
Support the preparation, review and implementation of engineering change documentation.
Understand the requirements associated with design modifications in an operating nuclear facility.
Coordinate engineering changes with operations, maintenance, work management and other project stakeholders.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) in Ontario is required.
Minimum six years of related mechanical engineering experience.
Previous experience supporting nuclear power projects or working within an operating nuclear facility.
Active OPG or Bruce Power security clearance, depending on the assignment.
OPG ECC experience is required for the three Pickering positions.
Advanced knowledge of applicable mechanical engineering codes, standards, techniques and criteria.
Ability to independently complete complex engineering assignments and resolve technical issues.
Experience with specialized engineering software or programming tools relevant to mechanical design and analysis is an asset.
Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, management and multidisciplinary project teams.
Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities.
