Role
As an Associate Quantity Surveyor in Cambridge, you'll take senior leadership responsibility across both preconstruction and post-contract stages on complex construction projects. This associate quantity surveying job offers strategic involvement in cost planning, procurement strategy, contract negotiation, commercial risk management, final account settlements and business development.
The role is based in the Cambridge office, offering excellent exposure to diverse sectors and influence over business strategy. Responsibilities
As an Associate Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
Lead quantity surveying services across preconstruction and post-contract stages on high-value projects throughout the West Midlands
Prepare comprehensive cost plans and strategic commercial advice
Develop and manage procurement strategies and tender documentation
Provide commercial leadership, risk management and strategic advisory
Oversee contract administration and dispute resolution
Negotiate and settle final accounts with complex supply chains
Maintain strategic stakeholder relationships at board level
Manage senior, assistant and trainee quantity surveyors
Take responsibility for professional development of junior staff
Ensure compliance with RICS standards
Drive business development and win new work for the Birmingham practice
Represent the business at industry events
Support APC candidates working towards RICS chartership
Collaborate with project managers, building surveyors and wider consultancy teams across multidisciplinary schemes
Contribute to strategic business planning and profitability targets
Influence company policy, procedures and commercial best practice
Person
To be successful in this Associate Quantity Surveyor position in Cambridge, you will be significant experience working within a construction consultancy environment and be able to demonstrate:
A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related built environment discipline
Minimum 8 years' post-graduate experience in construction consultancy environments
Strong preconstruction and post-contract knowledge across all project stages
Proven commercial management capability with varied sector expertise
Prior consultancy experience working within a professional practice environment at senior quantity surveying level
MRICS qualified (essential) with proven commitment to RICS professional standards
Experience in line management
Demonstrable work-winning capability
Excellent understanding of JCT, NEC and other forms of construction contract
Strategic thinking with strong commercial awareness
Exceptional communication skills and ability to build senior client relationships
Competency with cost management software, procurement systems and Microsoft Office
Full UK driving licence for West Midlands client and site visits
Professional, confident manner with leadership presence
