A leading civil engineering contractor in the South West is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee a large-scale project based in Bristol. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to major infrastructure developments within a dynamic and reputable organisation.
Job Duties
- Prepare and manage detailed cost plans, estimates, and budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct thorough cost control and forecasting to ensure projects remain within financial parameters.
- Oversee procurement processes including tender preparation, evaluation, and subcontractor negotiations.
- Manage contractual matters, ensuring compliance with relevant agreements and timely resolution of disputes.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to provide accurate commercial advice and support.
- Monitor project progress and produce regular financial reports to stakeholders.
- Lead risk assessments relating to costs and commercial implications, implementing mitigation strategies as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies throughout all commercial activities.
- Mentor junior quantity surveyors and contribute to continuous improvement of company processes.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driving licence.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification recognised within the construction industry.
Experience
- Minimum of five years’ experience in quantity surveying, preferably within civil engineering or large-scale construction projects.
- Proven track record of managing commercial aspects on significant infrastructure schemes.
- Experience in contract administration and procurement within the construction sector.
Knowledge and Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of quantity surveying principles, techniques, and best practises.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement methods, and commercial management.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and negotiation abilities.
- Proficient in cost management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with regular site visits to project locations in and around Bristol.
- Full-time hours, typically Monday to Friday with occasional requirements for extended hours to meet project demands.
- Use of personal vehicle for travel between sites; mileage and fuel allowances provided.
- Work environment includes exposure to construction sites requiring adherence to health and safety protocols.
