About the role

About Zego Insurance hasn’t changed much in over a century. The way we live, work and travel has. Good drivers are the entire point of Zego. Seven in 10 drivers on the road are consistently good, but until telematics came along there was no way to prove it, so nearly everyone paid a price based on averages. Zego is the company built to change that. At Zego, we’re leading the AI evolution in insurance. We move fast, without the layers that usually slow things down. AI takes the routine work off every team, from Finance to Product to Marketing, so people ship real code and launch custom dashboards in minutes. Engineering commits are entirely AI-assisted, which shifts the focus from team size to the quality of your thinking, and our data warehouse connects directly to an AI assistant for instant answers. Backed by a modern tech stack (Claude Code, Snowflake, Figma and Zapier) and a commitment to adopting new tools in days rather than quarters, you get complete ownership to do the most impactful work of your career. Purpose of the role Zego’s Complex Claims team is expanding, and we’re on the hunt for a highly skilled Large Loss Claims Handler to join our team. Our large loss specialists handle Zego’s most complex and high value motor claims including those involving brain and spinal trauma, psychiatric injury, complex fractures and pain conditions. In this pivotal role, reporting to the Motor Major Loss Manager, you’ll manage your own portfolio of motor cases, focusing on injury claims exceeding £500k. This position requires not only excellent communication and negotiation skills but also a deep understanding of liability, indemnity, and quantum issues to effectively drive down claims costs while ensuring fair compensation for injured claimants. Alongside handling technical claims, this role involves introducing and executing a quality review programme within the complex loss team, as well as providing mentorship, oversight, and professional development through a structured training scheme. Beyond handling claims, the team works closely with other claims colleagues, reinsurers, panel solicitors, carriers, rehab providers and colleagues across underwriting and pricing to deliver fair, commercially sound outcomes. As a small, highly technical team, we offer broad exposure to grow your career 🚀 What you'll be working on Managing a portfolio of high value motor claims typically valued above £500k through pre and post litigation Communicate effectively with customers, witnesses, insurers, repairers, solicitors, and medical agencies to expedite claim resolutions Serve as a technical expert within the team, offering guidance and support in large loss scenarios Work with the Motor Major Loss Manager and our Head of TP & Complex Claims on Claims strategy and processes Motivate and develop more junior team members by sharing your knowledge and expertise Maintain Reinsurer and carrier relationships through timely and accurate updates Investigate, negotiate and settle claims Calculation of accurate reserves and make decisions on Indemnity and Liability claims Participate in strategic projects to keep the team at the forefront of industry trends and performance What you will need to be successful Proven experience in managing high value motor bodily injury claims with a current handling authority of at least £250k Deep knowledge of liability, indemnity, causation, reserving, future losses, the Ogden Discount Rate and complex medical issues Experience handling litigated claims and applying relevant procedures and frameworks including CPR and MIB technical disputes A passion for a career in Large Loss and a desire to help shape a growing large loss function What it’s like to work at Zego At Zego, we operate like a high-performing sports team.
