About the role

Cleaning Assistant at Farmborough Court

Sunderland Care and Support is a Local Authority owned trading company supporting a wide range of vulnerable people across the City of Sunderland.

Our Values

At Sunderland Care and Support we aim to be a trusted provider in the delivery of high-quality customer focused social and health care services.

Farmborough Court

Farmborough Court Intermediate Care Centre provides short-term accommodation and support for adults recovering from illness, injury, or a hospital stay who would benefit from a period of rehabilitation or reablement to regain their independence. Working within a person-centred environment, our dedicated multidisciplinary team supports individuals to build confidence, improve daily living skills, and achieve their recovery goals, enabling them to return home safely and independently wherever possible.

A typical stay is around 3–4 weeks, although this may be extended depending on an individual’s needs and progress. Every rehabilitation programme is tailored to the person, with regular reviews to ensure the right support is in place. We work closely with service users, their families, and health and social care professionals to provide high-quality care, promote wellbeing, and deliver the best possible outcomes.

At Farmborough Court, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment where people are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion throughout their recovery journey.

What you can offer

As a Cleaning Assistant within our Intermediate Care Centre, you will play an important role as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that service users, visitors, and colleagues have access to a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that meets the highest standards of quality and care.

You will support the delivery of a comprehensive cleaning service, maintaining high levels of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection prevention throughout the centre. You will be responsible for carrying out cleaning duties in accordance with organisational policies and procedures, while ensuring your own health and safety, and that of others. The role may also involve holding keys, where appropriate, to facilitate safe access to and egress from the building.

Under the direction of the management team, you will undertake a range of routine operational cleaning tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and polishing floors
  • Dusting and sanitising surfaces
  • Cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, communal areas, and offices
  • Using specialist cleaning equipment and materials where required
  • Supporting laundry services, including the collection, washing, drying, and distribution of linen and clothing
  • Recording and monitoring completed tasks using designated systems and documentation

The successful applicant will demonstrate the core values of Sunderland Care and Support, treating customers, families, visitors, and colleagues with dignity, compassion, and respect at all times. You will uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and personal accountability, recognising the trust placed in our services and contributing to a safe, supportive, and person-centred environment.

Working within an Intermediate Care Centre, you will also be expected to develop positive and professional relationships with service users, promoting their wellbeing and ensuring their comfort and dignity is maintained at all times.

At Sunderland Care and Support, we place great importance on our staff’s commitment, attitude, flexibility, and values. These qualities are essential to delivering outstanding services and making a positive difference to the lives of the people we support.
