The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Mechatronics Department.Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the development of mechanical systems for advanced maritime platforms, supporting projects from concept through detailed design, integration, testing and customer acceptance.This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging programmes, while supporting the development of junior engineers and contributing to future product development across our maritime technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to and lead the design and development of mechanical systems for complex maritime applications.Define mechanical architectures and develop engineering solutions from system requirements.Produce and review CAD models, technical drawings and design documentation.Support integration, testing, commissioning and customer acceptance activities.Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards.Mentor junior engineers and contribute to capability development within the team.Collaborate with suppliers, customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.Support bid activities and contribute towards future technical strategy.
Knowledge & Experience
Ideally you will have:
Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including stress, materials and manufacturability.Experience using 3D CAD software (Solid Edge preferred, although experience with other CAD packages will be considered).Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and technical documentation.Experience designing for cost, reliability and testability.Understanding of systems engineering principles within multidisciplinary development environments.The ability to interpret customer and system requirements and develop robust mechanical design solutions.Experience of designing equipment for underwater or harsh environments would be advantageous, but is not essential.
