Electrical & Controls Technician
Teesside
Salary up to £55,000 basic + benefits

We are recruiting an Electrical & Control Technician to join a Marine Engineering team supporting the maintenance, operation and continuous improvement of vessel electrical and automation systems.

The successful candidate will work on a wide range of electrical, control and automation projects while helping ensure equipment reliability, safety and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Control Systems & Automation

  • Design and develop electrical control systems including PLC and SCADA applications.
  • Produce functional design specifications.
  • Support integration of electrical controls into wider engineering systems.

Testing & Maintenance

  • Conduct testing, commissioning and fault diagnosis activities.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and system backup procedures.
  • Improve system reliability and minimise equipment downtime.
  • Identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical engineering standards and legislation.
  • Produce technical reports, manuals and engineering documentation.
  • Support project planning, delivery and handover activities.

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Respond to electrical and control system faults.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance and operational teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering operations.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Experience with PLC programming platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley or similar.
  • Knowledge of SCADA and HMI systems.
  • Experience with AC and DC motor drives.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and control schematics.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including Profibus, Profinet and TCP/IP.
