About the role

Operational Support Officer AO


Location: The Law Courts, Civic Centre, Crewe, Cheshire, CW1 2DP
Pay Rate: £13.25 per hour (AWR from Day One)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
Working Pattern: Fully office-based
Clearance Required: Enhanced DBS - To be provided by Brookstreet

About the Role


We are currently recruiting for an Operational Support Officer to join The Law Courts in Crewe. This is a varied and rewarding role combining administrative responsibilities with court usher duties, supporting the day-to-day operation of the court and ensuring court users receive a professional and efficient service.
The successful candidate will work closely with the judiciary, court staff, legal professionals and members of the public, helping to support hearings and maintain the smooth running of court proceedings.

Key Responsibilities


As an Operational Support Officer, you will:

  • Welcome and assist court users, including judges, jurors, solicitors, barristers, police officers, witnesses and members of the public.
  • Call parties into court hearings and ensure proceedings run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Provide information relating to court hearings and proceedings.
  • Escort court users around the court building when required.
  • Administer oaths and affirmations.
  • Keep court users informed of hearing times, courtroom changes and delays.
  • Prepare courtrooms, hearing rooms and meeting rooms for daily use.
  • Support hearings conducted both in person and via video link.
  • Assist with the organisation and administration of hearings, tribunals and trials.
  • Collect and distribute court files, papers and bundles to the judiciary and court staff.
  • Produce court documents and standard correspondence.
  • Create and update records on internal systems.
  • Complete data entry, filing, printing and general administrative duties.
  • Process incoming and outgoing post.
  • Support clerking activities within Civil and Family Courts, tribunals and hearings.
  • Respond to general enquiries from court users and provide excellent customer service.
  • Support colleagues and contribute to the effective running of the court.

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal professionally with a diverse range of people.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong administrative skills and experience of handling documentation.
  • Confidence using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A professional, adaptable and resilient approach to work.
