Property Officer

Salary: £27,254 - £31,022 per annum

Grade: Grade 8 (SCP 9 – 17)

Contract: Permanent, Full Time (37 hours per week)

Location: Hastings, East Sussex

Hastings Borough Council is looking for an organised, proactive and customer-focused Property Officer to join our Property and Commercial Assets team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the day-to-day management of the Council's diverse property portfolio. You'll work closely with colleagues, tenants, contractors and other stakeholders, ensuring our estates are managed efficiently, safely and in compliance with relevant legislation and Council policies.

About the role

As Property Officer, you will provide operational and administrative support across a wide range of property management activities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the Estates inbox and responding to enquiries from tenants, members of the public and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting the delivery of property maintenance by raising and monitoring works orders and liaising with contractors.
  • Coordinating contractor visits and maintaining accurate records.
  • Undertaking property inspections, meter readings and emergency lighting tests.
  • Carrying out quarterly Health & Safety inspections for non-industrial land and property.
  • Monitoring tenant insurance compliance.
  • Raising sales orders and purchase requisitions.
  • Managing property records, digitalising archived files and maintaining key control.
  • Providing administrative support to the Property and Commercial Assets team, including organising meetings, taking minutes and managing incoming and outgoing correspondence.

About you

We're looking for someone who is highly organised, takes pride in delivering excellent customer service and has strong administrative skills.

You will have:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above), or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in an administrative role.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and experience using databases, spreadsheets and financial systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to process information accurately.
  • Confidence in dealing professionally with customers, tenants and colleagues, including handling challenging situations.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use (or willingness to obtain the necessary business insurance).
