Job summary

The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent (CASD), and delivering some of the most technically complex programmes in defence. At least one of four nuclear-armed submarines, supported by smaller attack submarines, is on patrol at all times: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

The primary delivery location for this position is Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Job description

The role is essential to support the successful delivery of a multi-billion pound infrastructure programme to directly support submarine availability and meet the enduring requirements of the Continuous at Sea Deterrent. The role is required to support the existing team, and provide a platform for the development of essential skills required within the Submarine Delivery Agency to support the existing programme and future infrastructure projects. This role will provide on-site construction and construction contract experience required to manage and deliver major infrastructure projects. This role, in supporting the existing delivery programme, will provide specific experience in the contract administration required in major infrastructure works.

Person specification

The role involves working within our Devonport Submarine Infrastructure team. This team is responsible for creating future capability for maintaining upcoming submarines. They achieve this by constructing maintenance facilities where submarines undergo major service, replacing used or failed elements, and updating equipment with the latest technology.

Your specific role in this process is to support the Project Manager for the design and construction contracts. You will use and develop your skills in, cost management, risk management, presentation, negotiation, contract administration, programme management, data analysis and project improvement to achieve the project objectives.

You will be required to support the administration of New Engineering Contract (4th Edition) Engineering and Construction Contract (NEC4 ECC) contracts, analysis data to assess performance, develop forecasts of cost and time, prepare project artefacts, challenge contractors, analyse monthly cost submissions, undertake audits, provide advice and reports to the Project Manager. You must be willing to work closely with the wider team, working with our suppliers and engaging in difficult conversations when necessary. You will be supported in your role by specialists within the team.
