Location: Guildford, GU1 2SX
Pay: £25,000 per annum (approximately £18.32 per hour equivalent)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7.30am–3.00pm (35 hours per week)
Working weeks: 39 weeks per year (term time plus INSET days)
Team: Small team of 4

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic School Cook Manager to join the catering team at St Thomas of Canterbury in Guildford.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced catering professional who has previous school or education catering experience and enjoys providing fresh, nutritious and high-quality meals for pupils and staff.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the school kitchen, working alongside and leading a small team of four.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support a small team of four within the school kitchen.
• Plan, prepare and cook high-quality meals for pupils and staff.
• Organise the day-to-day running of the kitchen and catering service.
• Manage ordering, stock control and minimise food waste.
• Maintain excellent food hygiene, health and safety standards.
• Ensure all kitchen procedures and records are maintained.
• Work closely with the school to provide an efficient and well-organised catering service.
• Support and motivate the catering team, leading by example.
• Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming kitchen environment.

About You

• Previous experience working in a school or education catering environment is essential.
• Previous experience as a Cook, Chef or Catering Manager.
• Confident leading and supporting a small team.
• Good knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen health & safety.
• Passionate about producing good-quality, nutritious food.
• Organised, reliable and able to work independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working in a busy school environment.
