Children's Residential Support Worker

We are currently recruiting experienced Children's Residential Support Workers to join a dedicated and supportive team providing high-quality care for children and young people aged 8-16 years within a residential setting in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

The Role
As a Children's Residential Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting children and young people with their emotional, behavioural and social development. Working alongside a dedicated team, you will help create a stable, caring and structured environment where every child feels safe, valued and supported.
You will build positive relationships with young people while promoting independence, resilience and confidence, helping them develop the skills they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care and emotional support to children and young people aged 8-16.
• Promote a safe, caring and nurturing home environment.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
• Support children with their daily routines, personal development and life skills.
• Encourage participation in education, hobbies and community activities.
• Promote positive behaviour using therapeutic and child-centred approaches.
• Assist with care planning and individual support plans.
• Maintain accurate daily records, reports and incident documentation.
• Administer medication where trained and authorised.
• Safeguard children and report any concerns in line with safeguarding procedures.
• Support children during appointments, education and recreational activities.
• Work collaboratively with social workers, education professionals, healthcare teams and families.
• Participate in team meetings, training and supervision sessions.
• Maintain professional boundaries while acting as a positive role model.

Requirements
We are looking for caring, resilient and enthusiastic individuals who have experience working with children and young people within residential care.
Essential

• Previous experience working within a Children's Residential Care setting.
• Experience supporting children and young people aged 8-16.
• Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations professionally.
• Flexible approach to working shifts, including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins (where applicable).
• A compassionate and child-centred approach.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

• Level 3 NVQ/Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
• Candidates with substantial residential childcare experience who do not yet hold the qualification are also encouraged to apply.
• Experience working with children who display emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
• Full UK Driving Licence (preferred).
