About the role
Location: Reading (hybrid)
Duration: 6 month initial contract
Rate: £87ph UMB (Inside IR35)
Role details:
We are looking for a Technical Lead to join our defence client on a contract basis. Due to the nature of the role, we require candidates who hold an active SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing technical leadership across infrastructure, cloud platforms, cyber security, DevSecOps, data engineering, analytics, and platform services
- Establishing technical standards and governance
- Overseeing architecture and ensuring alignment with enterprise principles
- Maintaining platform security, resilience, scalability, and compliance
- Overseeing cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructure environments
- Driving automation, Infrastructure as Code, DataOps, DevOps, and platform engineering best practices
- Leading technical decisions regarding Azure services, Kubernetes, OpenShift, data platforms, and security technologies
- Managing technical risks and dependencies across multiple projects
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Strong technical expertise across cloud, infrastructure, security, and data technologies
- Extensive Microsoft Azure experience including governance, networking, identity, security, and platform services
- Experience with Kubernetes and OpenShift platform administration and architecture
- Strong knowledge of DevOps, DevSecOps, Platform Engineering, and Infrastructure as Code principles
- Experience implementing cyber security controls and secure engineering practices
- Knowledge of enterprise data platforms, data engineering, data governance, and analytics ecosystems
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Desirable Skills:
- Experience operating within defence, aerospace, or highly regulated environments
- Enterprise Architecture certification or experience
- Experience supporting classified or secure government environments
- Knowledge of Digital Twin, AI, and Machine Learning platforms
- Experience with multi-cloud environments
- FinOps and cloud cost optimisation experience
- Experience managing external suppliers and strategic technology partners
- Experience supporting large-scale transformation programmes
