About the role
Morson are recruiting Mechanical Fitters to join Marshall Land Systems at their new facility in Merthyr Tydfil.There are contract and permanent roles available, The salary on offer is £35,000.Alternatively there are also contract role available, these will be initially for 6 months with a strong possibility of becoming permanent. The hourly rate is £17.67 or £23.88/hour via an Umbrella company. The next Assessment days will be on 16th and 17th September and will involve both individual and group assessments and a trade test. The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for the inspection, refurbishment, and repair of shelter units to ensure they meet operational, safety, and customer requirements. The role supports both refurbishment activities and the assembly and installation of new containers, contributing to the successful and timely delivery of customer projects. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Mechanical Fitter ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. The role involves but is not limited to the following: Refurbishment & RepairConduct detailed surveys of shelters requiring partial or full refurbishment (mechanical and basic electrical elements)Carry out repair, refurbishment, and upgrade activities to restore units to required specificationsIdentify and report defects, damage, or deviations from engineering standardsReverse engineer components where drawings or specifications are incomplete or unavailableAssembly & InstallationSupport assembly and installation of new containers and associated systemsAssist with build, test, and installation phases, including fault finding and rectificationEnsure all work is completed to a high standard and is ready for inspection, testing, and customer acceptance Technical ExecutionInterpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructionsSafely use mechanical and electrical hand tools (e.g. drills, rivet guns, sealing tools, jigsaws, socket sets)Complete all work in line with engineering and quality standards Health, Safety & EnvironmentCarry out all tasks in accordance with safe systems of work and health and safety proceduresEnsure appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all timesIdentify hazards and report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or near missesMaintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment in line with 5S principlesSupport the company’s commitment to maintaining a safe production environment Quality & ComplianceEnsure all assembly installations comply with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and company standardsComplete, check sheets, and quality records accuratelySupport quality inspections and testing processesIdentify non-conformances and assist with corrective actions where requiredMaintain high standards of workmanship to ensure right-first-time build quality Continuous ImprovementActively support continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environmentIdentify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and build qualityParticipate in Lean activities including 5S, standard work, and waste reduction initiativesSupport improvements that enhance safety, productivity, and delivery performance Authority & Decision MakingCarry out repairs or upgrade work within the scope of approved engineering documentationRaise technical or quality concerns to the supervisor where requiredSupport resolution of issues during repair or upgrade process Skills & Experience EssentialProven experience in a mechanical fitting, assembly, or maintenance roleAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specificationsExperience working in a quality-controlled or production environmentCompetence in using a wide range of hand and power toolsStrong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship DesirableExperience in refurbishment or repair environmentsAbility to reverse engineer components where documentation is limitedExperience in regulated industries such as manufacturing, defence, or engineeringExposure to continuous improvement or Lean practices Technical SkillsMechanical assembly, disassembly, and repair techniquesUnderstanding of structural components, fixings, and sealing methodsBasic understanding of electrical systems (advantageous)Ability to work accurately from detailed work instructions Additional local needsFull-time, site-based roleAbility to work in confined spaces where requiredManual handling and physical work involvedSuccessful candidate must be eligible for and pass BPSS clearance
