Southampton, UK Ackerman Pierce Ltd Specialist Tutor (Interim Contract) Southampton City Council – Youth Justice Service Location: Southampton (community-based and council settings) Contract: Interim, Full-time Duration: Initial 3-month contract with the potential for extension Rate: £21.14 per hour (Umbrella) You will deliver bespoke, engaging education sessions tailored to the needs of young people who often face significant barriers to learning. The role combines tutoring, pastoral support, multi-agency collaboration, and progression planning to help reduce learning gaps and build educational resilience. Key responsibilities include: Delivering core and wider curriculum education sessions for school-aged and post-16 learners. Supporting Laser Award accreditations and recognising opportunities for cross-unit evidence of learning. Using creative and trauma-informed approaches to engage young people with complex needs. Carrying out baseline assessments and planning targeted interventions to reduce learning gaps. Working collaboratively with CAMHS, SEND, Educational Psychology, Speech and Language teams, and other professionals to assess and support individual needs. Supporting young people to reintegrate into education and develop skills for further education, training, or employment. Providing feedback to case managers to support reports, EHCP evidence, and progression planning. Monitoring and reporting on attendance, engagement, and progress. Ensuring all work is carried out in line with Southampton City Council safeguarding policies and Youth Justice Service procedures. These duties reflect the core purpose of the post within Southampton City Council’s Youth Justice Service. The role focuses on educational provision, attainment, attendance, and progression for children and young people engaged with the service.What we’re looking for Essential Relevant degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Experience supporting pastoral work within an educational setting Several years’ teaching experience in primary or secondary education Strong understanding of statutory school-age education Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good IT and data management skills, including Microsoft Office Understanding of trauma-informed approaches in education Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team Ability to maintain accurate records and confidential information Full driving licence and access to transport, or the ability to travel effectively across Southampton and the surrounding areaDesirable Further qualifications in a related field Experience working with disadvantaged or vulnerable children Knowledge of post-16 education and progression pathways Previous experience as a Designated Teacher or DSLWhy Choose Ackerman Pierce?
