If so, Randstad Education wants to hear from you. We are currently recruiting an adaptable and innovative Informal Teacher (TLG) to lead a Key Stage 2 class within a specialist provision based in South Leeds.

This outstanding Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) in South Leeds supports pupils aged 2 to 19 with a broad spectrum of complex needs. They pride themselves on a person-centred, informal curriculum pathway that focuses heavily on multi-sensory learning, communication, and emotional regulation. Supported by state-of-the-art specialist facilities, low pupil-to-staff ratios, and an experienced multidisciplinary team-including on-site Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists-the school offers a safe, nurturing, and highly inclusive environment where every pupil's progress is celebrated.

In this long-term teaching role, you will take lead responsibility for a Key Stage 2 class catering to pupils with complex communication needs, all of whom utilise Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems and the majority of whom are pre-verbal.

Key duties include:

• Designing and delivering a creative, informal, and multi-sensory curriculum tailored to individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.

• Embedding robust AAC strategies into daily routines to ensure every learner has a voice and can make choices autonomously.

• Leading and managing a dedicated team of classroom support assistants to ensure safe, consistent, and structured routines.

• Implementing sensory integration routines, movement breaks, and positive behaviour support strategies to support emotional regulation.

• Assessing pupil progress using specialist framework tools and writing comprehensive reports for EHCP reviews.

• Collaborating closely with healthcare professionals, Speech and Language Therapists, and parents to maintain a holistic approach to learning.

• Proven track record of planning for and teaching KS2-age learners with complex needs and severe learning difficulties (SLD/PMLD/ASC).

• Practical experience in implementing and modelling high-tech and low-tech AAC tools (e.g., communication books, eye-gaze systems, switches, or speech-generating devices).

• Confidence in delivering an informal, play-based, or sensory-driven curriculum pathway.

• Strong classroom management and leadership skills, combined with a calm, resilient, and compassionate approach.

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification within the UK.

• Prior experience working with complex communication needs and pre-verbal learners in a UK special school or specialist provision setting.

• An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad).

• Full eligibility to work in the UK (please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this role).
