Location: Plough Lane Offices, Hereford, with remote working available.

About the Role

Herefordshire Council is looking for a Principal Transport Planner to help shape the future of transport across the county.

You will develop transport strategies and policies, support funding bids, manage projects and work with communities and partners to improve public transport, walking, cycling, rail and road connectivity.

Typical Day

A typical day may include:

• Developing transport strategies and policy.
• Reviewing transport data and funding opportunities.
• Working on the Local Transport Plan.
• Meeting with council teams, communities and external partners.
• Managing transport projects and consultants.
• Preparing reports, business cases and funding bids.
• Supporting sustainable transport and infrastructure improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver transport strategies and policies.
• Support local and regional bus and rail planning.
• Secure transport funding and manage projects.
• Engage with communities and stakeholders.
• Support sustainable and inclusive transport solutions.
• Contribute to infrastructure and transport planning.

About You

You will have:

• A degree or equivalent qualification, ideally in transport or planning.
• Knowledge of transport policy, legislation and sustainable transport.
• Experience developing transport policies and strategies.
• Good project management and communication skills.
• The ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders.

Transport Planning training is available where required.
