About the role

HEAD OF HR

Location: Southport
Salary: £50,000–£60,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, full-time

Howard James Recruitment is supporting an established business in appointing a Head of HR. This is an opportunity for an experienced HR professional to lead the people strategy, support cultural development and help create a positive, high-performing workplace.

The role

As part of the senior management team, you will provide practical HR advice across the business and contribute to effective people policies, processes and initiatives. This broad generalist role involves travel between branches and offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the HR business plan in line with commercial priorities, legislative changes and business improvements.
• Manage end-to-end recruitment and work with managers to strengthen retention and recruitment practices.
• Advise and coach managers on employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance and long-term sickness cases.
• Maintain policies and processes in line with employment legislation, best practice and business requirements.
• Work with payroll and accounts colleagues on employee benefits and related changes.
• Prepare and present people statistics, analysis and trends for directors and managers.
• Deliver internal training and support managers through challenging conversations.
• Coach and develop the HR team, where appropriate.
• Support business restructuring and TUPE activity, where required.

About you

• CIPD Level 7 qualified, with significant HR experience at business partnering or managerial level.
• Strong knowledge of employment legislation and legal compliance.
• Experience managing complex employee relations cases and providing confident, balanced advice.
• Experience of recruitment, employee retention, policy development and management training.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence handling challenging discussions professionally.
• Highly organised, able to work autonomously and capable of meeting agreed deadlines.
• Line management experience advantageous.
• Experience supporting restructuring and TUPE beneficial.
• Motor trade experience advantageous but not essential.
• A driving licence with no more than six points is required to travel between sites.
